Shared wafer space — cost-effective path to a first photonic chip
MPW stands for Multi-Project Wafer. Multiple customers share a single wafer reticle and each receives chips from their tile. Because fixed fabrication cost is split across all participants the per-customer cost is a fraction of a dedicated run, making MPW the standard route for prototyping and design validation.
LIGENTEC runs approximately 15 MPW shuttle runs per year across AN800, AN350, AN150, and MPW-LN (TFLN) platforms. InGaAs photodetector integration is available on all runs, for C and O-band TFLN modulators are available on MPW-LN runs. Both active offerings are available via LIGENTEC LABS. The same process applies to MPW and volume production, so a validated MPW design requires no redesign when you scale.
