High-speed modulation on a low-loss SiN backbone
LIGENTEC’s Thin-Film Lithium Niobate (TFLN) technology integrates low-loss high-speed electro-optic modulators with the mature Silicon Nitride (SiN) platform. By combining SiN waveguides for ultra-low-loss passive optical routing with a high-performance TFLN layer, this hybrid platform delivers modulators with a low VπL and supports modulation bandwidths exceeding 100 GHz. This technology is available through LIGENTEC LABS via both Multi-Project Wafer (MPW-LN) runs and dedicated fabrication runs.
Key features: SiN backbone propagation loss < 0.5 dB/m; modulation bandwidth beyond 100 GHz (through dedicated runs); low insertion loss at the SiN–TFLN interface; and scalable 200 mm manufacturing. Applications include LiDAR, optical computing, quantum computing, quantum communication (QKD), gyroscopes, 6G communications, metrology and optical clocks, and AI/data-centre interconnects among others.
