What is the propagation loss of LIGENTEC’s silicon nitride platform?

Record-low loss: < 0.5 dB/m

LIGENTEC’s silicon nitride platform demonstrates ultra-low propagation loss below 0.5 dB/m – Multi mode, and 1 dB/m – Single mode, enabling high-Q resonators with quality factors exceeding 20 million.

This level of performance allows photonic circuits to maintain optical coherence over unprecedented path lengths while maximizing light–matter interaction. As a result, SiN has become the preferred platform for applications where optical loss directly limits system performance, including frequency comb generation, narrow-linewidth lasers, quantum photonics, microwave photonics, and advanced biosensing.

For designers, ultra-low loss translates into longer delay lines, higher resonator finesse, reduced optical power requirements, and improved overall system efficiency — capabilities that are difficult to achieve on higher-loss integrated photonic platforms.

To ensure consistent performance, every fabrication run is supported by comprehensive optical characterization, statistical process control (SPC), and process control monitor (PCM) measurements, providing customers with full visibility into process quality and device performance.
