EPIC Technology Meeting on Photonics for Bio and Life Science Applications, INNOVAARE, SWITZERLAND

(26-27th SEPTEMBER 2023)

LIGENTEC was be having a talk at EPIC Technology Meeting on Photonics for Bio and Life Science Applications about “Integrated biosensing from the visible to the IR using low loss silicon nitride”.

Biophotonics agglutinates all the technologies related with the interaction of light with biological organisms, tissues, cells and molecules. We have seen in the last years an amazing evolution with a great amount of developments and new technologies, which allows us to understand more in detail the behaviour of different living beings, their internal structure and their reaction against certain chemical compounds and other external agents. All this information is very valuable to develop new products and to improve the performance of the existing solutions and devices dedicated to healthcare and medical applications.
In this meeting, we bring together the key companies developing photonics devices and components with researchers and end-users to discuss the current technology trends and emerging applications. We will discuss about the different imaging and analytical technologies involved in the visualization and characterization of biological samples, such as spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, OCT, Raman spectroscopy/imaging or fluorescence microscopy. We will pay attention to the mechanisms involved in the interaction of light with different tissues, very interesting to improve their properties or they performance by the absorption of energy in the irradiated area, and we will find which applications are trendier nowadays. And, last but not least, we will also talk about the last developments in fabrication and 3D printing for bio and life sciences, including bioprinting, 2 photon polymerization or additive manufacturing. We will find how those technologies can help to develop new components to support the different techniques of imaging and analysis, but also how their combination with cells, growth factors, and/or biomaterials allow the fabrication of biomedical parts.

IEEE QUANTUM WEEK PANEL ON “THE QUANTUM FOUNDRY”, BROOMFIELD, CO,USA

(18-23rd SEPTEMBER 2022)

Quantum computing progress will stall if foundries are not available with the capability to fabricate next generation quantum processors. The heart of any quantum computing system, whether superconducting, photonic or trapped ion, is created in a foundry. To date, much of the quantum processor work has been performed in foundries leveraging existing tools and processes. Scaling qubit count, decreasing error rate, performing detection/readout, and enabling connectivity all depend on foundries. This panel will explore the requirements for a foundry capable of producing the next generation of quantum computer devices. What material and process capability do state of the art foundries offer to support the development of quantum processors? What new business models, materials and processes will establish the quantum foundry of 2030 and beyond? The goal of this panel is to explore how to build the foundry capability to build next generation quantum computers. This provides foundries the ability to highlight their unique capability for supporting quantum. It also highlights opportunities for materials research and tooling as the quantum ecosystem grows. This panel represents the interests of multiple qubit technologies.  The insights generated should be of interest to those from industry, academia, and government.

PIC Testing

(2 JUNE 2021)

LIGENTEC ACADEMY it’s our new learning program to help you understand the importance of silicon nitride photonic integrated circuits (PICs) in different application areas. It comprehends a group of webinars spread along the year.
This 2021, a total of four webinars are planned to take place.

LIGENTEC Academy continued with its Webinar #2 about “PIC Testing”.

By attending this 1-hour session, participants gained insights into 2 distinct aspects of PIC testing: testing on PICs for performance, and test-&-quality of PICs during volume PIC manufacturing. The former aspect focused on high end performance testing of a PIC, for example of a high Q ring resonator. The latter aspect focused on volume-capable concepts for combined electro-optical test-&-qualify steps in PIC and photonic device manufacturing, with implications for ‘design for manufacturing’ and ‘design for test’, for test system design, and so too for multichannel probe head development. To round off the webinar we heared about test-&-measurement instrumentation relevant to both topics, namely available instrumentation options for high performance PICs, and instrumentation concepts for multichannel test-&-qualify of on-wafer PICs, respectively. For this, we brought together 3 important players from the product development workflow eco-system: LIGENTEC (PICs), ficonTEC (systems for test) and Keysight (instrumentation).

Participation was recommended to nanotechnology, optics and sensing enthusiasts, M.Sc./Ph.D candidates, postdocs & students.
